Session 006
The party went to bed after the end of Session 5
Leodel was woken up by The Never-Ending Letter
Leodel attempted to sneak out of the room but was unknowingly noticed by Fill Werrell, Salvador, Mike Hawk, Lamoira, and Alberic.
Leodel read the letter after stripping naked in the toilet
Leodel was told by Dagult Neverember that The Contact had tried to intercept Lamoira and that she had escaped.
Leodel informed Dagult he had run into Lamoira as if by fate and agreed to keep an eye on her for now.
Dagult implied keeping her alive was in his best interests, but at some point, Leodel would have to bring her back to Neverwinter with him. Dagult Neverember promised Leodel that much of his debt would be paid if this was done successfully.
Leodel went back to bed.
The party all awoke a few hours ago, they ate breakfast and Alberic, Salvador, and Leodel headed towards the markets to buy a greatsword for Salvador
Salvador purchased a greatsword for 10gp
The trio headed back towards the Stonehill Inn
At the same time, Lamoira had a short conversation with Uganda Pickles asking about half-elves. It was awkward.
The party convened at the Inn and headed to pick up the horses and cart from Ideira near the markets.
Alberic and Fill Werrell headed up the horses while the remaining members stayed in the cart.
Alberic and Fill Werrell discussed their differing spiritualities and quests for enlightenment and Alberic offered Fill Werrell his hand if he ever needed it to thwart the green and furry monster that threatens the Christmas spirit. In the back of the cart; the party small-talked about themselves and Leodel ended up performing a song on his lute; a song that talked about how he was in need of a hero and he was holding out for one. Lamoira mentioned that an elven man named Ander Praze once played that same song in her hometown many years ago. Leodel confirmed he did learn the song from Ander Praze and much more. Leodel thanked Lamoira for the fond memory.
After about an hour or two of travel - the party noticed a caravan setup on the road with luxurious red fabrics covering the back of it and two figures standing outside it.
Fill Werrell and Uganda Pickles took looks at it from a distance; and while they could both tell it was of Elven culture, they did not recognise the insignia of golden, concentric circles all over the fabric.
The party agreed to stop about 100ft before it on the other side of the road and Salvador kept a lookout from their cart while Fill Werrell and Mike Hawk investigated the cart up close.
As Fill Werrell and Mike Hawk got close, they noticed the eyes of the people; now clearly elves, were closed and the people entirely unresponsive. Upon stepping even closer, the two men sprung into animation and asked the party “Hello, How can I help you?”
One of the men introduced themselves as Arindor.
Fill Werrell and Mike Hawk noticed the men acting and talking as if they could only speak from a script. They did not respond with detailed answers and frequently repeated themselves. The other man also introduced himself as Arindor.
Fill Werrell cast Detect Good and Evil and the spell pinged the presence of two undead in the area where the men stood and also that the ground they had stepped into was magically desecrated. Mike Hawk also got a sense of recognition from the caravan and the two men but did not recall why.
After 30 seconds of this or so, Mike Hawk noticed a feeling come over his brain and when the feeling cemented he noticed his perspective had shifted to that of one of the men named Arindor and he now saw himself and Fill Werrell in front of him.
This out-of-body experience triggered him to swing his axe in response and triggered a combat encounter.
Mike Hawk swung on the man to his left with a surprise attack and dealt slashing damage across the throat. The man responded angrily. Salvador and the rest of the party ran from the caravan to help their allies; Uganda Pickles supported initially by landing a firebolt on the man Mike Hawk attacked. Mike Hawk followed up with another slash to kill one of the two Arindor men. The man’s robes and corpse suspended for a second before deteriorating into the ground rapidly. The party recognised that these men were Zombies.
Alberic used his advanced movement to flank around the remaining man. Lamoira and Leodel positioned themselves closer to the target but out of melee range. Fill Werrell attempted to cast Turn Undead but both the Arindor near them and another undead in the caravan resisted the spell. The Arindor remaining made some remarks before screaming “Get out here already!”
Before Salvador could act; a hulking barbarian of a man - his flesh clearly rotting - exited the back of the caravan. Mike Hawk recognised this man but could not recall why. The party worked together to damage the remaining Arindor and the barbarian man - with Lamoira landing the killing blow by throwing a dagger through his head. At the start of Mike Hawk’s next turn; he recalled that the barbarian man was actually his adoptive father; Dixon Normus.
The party continued to chip away at Dixon Normus after Fill Werrell confirmed that the man was likely too far corrupted to be saved; also mentioning the party was nowhere near the skill level required to attempt something like that. Dixon’s barbarian rage made a lot of the attacks the party landed do less damage and the fight dragged on. Lamoira ran to pick up one of her daggers off the ground and threw it directly at the zombie barbarian - hitting him square in the head. The dagger should have killed the man however he managed to cling to undeath and pulled the dagger out with his hand. Fill Werrell launched an arrow directly into Dixon Normus’s crotch area and he fell to the ground in pain.
Dixon Normus’s body didn’t crumble like that of the other men; the rot and damage to his body melted away and he returned to normal for but a moment. He warned Mike Hawk “Do not trust them! I trained you to be better than this. DO NOT TRUST THEM!” before his body slowly turned to dust and blew away with the wind.
